MAGANIK

mneflag.png

Maganik is a mountain in Montenegro. It is located in the central part of the country, about 30 km east of Niksic, towards the Moraca kanyon and north of Podgorica. It is a very indented mountain area, with numerous peaks mostly connected by passes and saddles, and sometimes vertical and even inaccessible rocks. Such are the rocks that surround the highest peak Medjedji vrh (2139 m) from the east and the north, which is to the east of the massif and in direction of Mrtvicke grede and the canyon of the same name. The second highest peak is Petrov vrh with 2124 m above the sea level. Maganik is mostly made of limestone. It is surrounded by the rivers Zeta, Moraca and Mrtvica. The river Mrtvica cuts deeply into the vertical rocks of Maganik in the canyon and along its right bank. In the west and south-west of the mountain there are extensive forests, where the Stitovo plateau with bauxite mines is particularly characteristic.
